About Me:

Artist Statement

I am a multidisciplinary mixed-media artist whose practice explores vulnerable, macabre, and satirical themes through a dynamic interplay of art historical and pop culture references. By experimenting with materials, techniques, and conceptual approaches, my work serves as a means of processing and reflecting on the complex, often contradictory spaces of human identity, psychology, sex, and mortality. Central to my practice is a desire to confront and question the social constructs surrounding the gaze, cultural icons, and selfhood.

Rooted in personal experience, my work is shaped by a life marked by both displacement and resilience. Born to two members of the Navy, I spent my formative years moving across the southern United States, Italy, and Bahrain. This mercurial upbringing fostered a deep appreciation for mythology, architecture, patterns, and cultural diversity. However, the richness of those external environments stood in stark contrast to home life. In that chaos, art became my sanctuary—a way to navigate trauma, make sense of my surroundings, and carve out a space where my voice could emerge.

My relationship with mixed media began out of necessity. Constant movement meant limited access to consistent materials, compelling me to develop an adaptable, resourceful approach that remains central to my practice today. I embrace a wide array of disciplines—painting, drawing, construction, writing, and research—favoring tactile, hands-on methods and the blending of traditional and contemporary techniques. I’m especially drawn to the tension and interaction between wet and dry materials across diverse surfaces such as canvas, wood, metal, paper, and found objects.

My process includes underpainting, glazing, scumbling, and constructing my own supports, frames, and pedestals. These methods are not merely technical choices—they are integral to the meaning of the work. The physical act of making becomes a metaphor for transformation and reclamation, allowing me to confront inherited narratives and build new visual languages grounded in both personal truth and collective resonance.

Ultimately, my work is a site of confrontation and catharsis. It is where brutality meets beauty, humor coexists with sorrow, and memory blurs into myth. Through this process, I aim not only to create art, but to forge a space where vulnerability, resilience, and complexity are not only visible—but valued.
